The King's Arms, High Street, Cookham

Posted 30 July 2005

I was very disappointed with The Kings Arms in Cookham when I went last week for a sunny lunchtime with some friends. We sat in the garden, which is lovely, although there was little shade to protect our babies, all in pushchairs or crawling around on picnic rugs.

What was disappointing was the service and the food.  There was only one person at the bar able to take food and drinks orders, and I was told this was due to a staff shortage.  So when we eventually got our order in we looked forward with even more hunger for the food.  The speciality sandwiches were all dry and curling, the bread not very fresh, and the exciting sounding fillings were quite uninspiring in reality, along with the poor presentation and unappealing few chips on the side.

Next time we will go to Bel & The Dragon where the lunch sandwiches are superb, served by friendly and attentive staff.

I also ate there recently on a sunny afternoon and thought it was great. Easier to get into than the Ferry and great food as well.
