Amnesty Fun Quiz Evening

The Cookham and Maidenhead branch of Amnesty International held their annual fun quiz on Friday 10th October.  Liz Kwantes was the Quiz Master ably supported by Mary Ashworth and her daughter. One section of the quiz this year was related to human rights.  This pointed out that the United States were responsible for the know execution of 65% of the children sentenced to death around the world since 1985.  The had also refused to sign the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the only other country being Somalia.  Also the USA had refused to sign the Ottawa Treaty to Ban Land Mines, although even countries such as Zimbabwe and the Yemen had. Another interesting fact was that the youngest detainee at Guantanomo Bay in May this year was 13 and the oldest 98.

Full House for the Fun Quiz

At nine o'clock supper was served, baked potatoes with tuna mayonnaise, cheese and baked beans, these were accompanied with colourful salads.  This was followed by an amazing selection of gooey puddings. Although it had seemed an enormous amount of food in the kitchen virtually nothing was left over apart from a small pat of butter.

Chairman Janet Dawson

There was also a raffle before the winners were announced and presented with their prizes. The winning team was led by Amnesty's chairman Janet Dawson. Just a coincidence!!

Four members of the winning team
