Volunteers' Lunch in Volunteer Week

This is the week of the Volunteer and to mark it the Windsor and Maidenhead Volunteer Centre had organised an exhibition and lunch at the Pinder Hall for voluntary groups in the Cookham area on Friday 3rd June. |

Tony Allerton, whose daughter was helped by the Thames Valley Air Ambulance two years ago, was full of enthusiasm for the Air Ambulance, particularly as he joined them just three weeks ago as Volunteers Co-ordinator. | ||||||

Beryl Schirn was there representing not only the PPG (Patients Participation Group), of which she is chairman, and the Patients Forum, but also the Asthma Society. Where does she have the time? | ||||||

Over lunch there was a competition to make as many words as possible out of the word VOLUNTEER. The winning team was led by Nigel Topping, Vice Chairman of the Pinder Hall, who managed to find 85 different words, although a few seemed to be more French than English. Is Lune really an English word? |

Diane Wynne-Powell can be found in the Cookham Library every Friday afternoon promoting the idea of volunteering. If you would like to volunteer to help somewhere in Cookham drop into the Library on a Friday. This may be from a regular weekly commitment to just a couple of hours a year.
