Over
the life of the plan, our ambitions for the Village are to:-
-
Maintain
and promote the unique characteristics and nature of Cookham, protect
the rural landscape and Village heritage, and encourage an increase in
individual involvement in the community.
-
Limit
the development of the built environment for business and housing with
the emphasis on ensuring that it is consistent with the needs of
Cookham’s population.
-
Put
Cookham at the forefront of sustainable best practice and, recognising
in particular the dangers of flooding to the area, we urge support for
initiatives which reduce its carbon foot-print.
-
Recognise
progressive changes in social needs, lifestyles and demographics in
the provision of local housing, education facilities and other support
services.
-
Encourage
primarily businesses that serve local needs.
-
Ensure
that Cookham is easily accessible to travel into, out of, and around,
encouraging well-managed tourism, with emphasis on sustainability and
safety.
-
Promote
Cookham as a safe, pleasant and caring community. Target a reduction
in the crime rate.
-
Encourage
and exploit any increased powers for the local Parish Council to
reflect local problems and needs in bye-laws.
-
We
recognise that that there may be some conflict between these ambitions
and our proposals, and we have been anxious to try to strike the
appropriate balance.
