APRIL SHOWERS POETRY EVENING

28 April 2009 - COOKHAM DEAN WI HALL

Mike Springate waxes lyrical

The lovers of poetry come in many guises but somewhere in their life poetry or a single poem has stirred, so succinctly, a wave of emotion that it is sometimes hard to comprehend  has come from so few simple lines.

On Tuesday’s poetry evening forty lovers of poetry listened and shared some poems to make us smile, to make us think, to make us sink into the sights and smells of spring.

A wonderful evening, when can we do this again...... please?

The evening was directed by local poet Mike Springate. The evening included a home-cooked meal, but people brought their own wine. The proceeds of the evening went to St John the Baptist vestry funds for Sunbeams and their Friendship Lunches.

The April Showers Poetry Evening at this year's Festival prompted a number of poets from in and around Cookham to bring their own work to read.  The following are just some of the poems we heard during the evening.

Blue - Gail Dorrington

The Heralds of Summer - Gail Dorrington

Sunday Evening Song - Mike Springate

Dawn Chorus - Mike Springate
