Crime:
28 June 2011
We have had some serious lead thefts over
night - a ton and a half from two houses. If you have lead visible from
the road, you should take extra precautions at this time. If you go online
you will find products to paint on the lead. It doesn’t dry and stays
sticky, so that it is difficult to touch and remove. Please keep an eye on
your neighbours lead. We have had incidents of the lead flashing around
windows ripped out of the wall.
There are people from outside the area in Maidenhead.
We have had a problem in Maidenhead with people going door to door cold
calling, offering to trim hedges and do garden work. They agree to cut the
hedge, do a small area, then ask for payment. Please remember our motto
– We do not buy good or services at
the door.
This would not be a police matter, as you have agreed a civil contract
with a contractor. Best not to get involved.
We have also had an incident in Datchet, where a man called on an
elderly resident asking for money. When the householder said he had none,
the man offered to take him to the cash till ! can you warn elderly
neighbours not to answer their door unless the person is known to them or
has made an appointment.
