4/10 Thursday 7 p.m. / 10.20 p.m. Highway Avenue. Burglary. Entry via forced rear door – untidy search, a bracelet and watch stolen. The owner had left the living room and porch light on, when they went out. We are just about to start our annual – ‘as the evenings draw in’ burglary campaign. We together with RBWM have produced a leaflet under the theme – ‘here’s a bright idea’. They are presently with the printers. I will very shortly be attaching a copy for you.
Re – ‘what lights do I leave on when I go out, or it will be dark when I get home from work’ ? It is very simple. When your house is not occupied – in the normal run of things – go outside and see what lights are visible from the street. It is as simple as that. Those are the lights that must be on, if it is dark and you are not at home. Timers are the answer. You can also plug in a radio tuned to a talk radio station, which can be just heard from the door. That will send a message that you may be home and listening to the radio and decided not to open the door – as opposed to, ‘not at home’. Neighbours can help – bin day – push bins back into place for your neighbours if they are at work. Letters / newspapers sticking out of letterboxes – please push them though. Deliveries – yellow pages etc. If these are in a porch beside a front door after 11 a.m. – no-one is home ! collect them and leave the owner a note. Why is this important to you ? These things will draw crime and thieves to your road – easy pickings. It helps if the thief has signs that no-one is home, so your road must not allow that to happen – it is in your own best interests to help your neighbours !!!

More calls from the ‘Windows’ people !
Hi Jeff

Windows Help Desk back again on our case!! Second call this week a few minutes ago. I got very annoyed as the guy was so insistent that I do as he says. He said that it was important that we do as he instructs and it would not take long and no charges.  He just needed to have me sign in and do as he says, otherwise my computer will not work properly for much longer, according to the report, and that he and a technical guy, would help me to rectify the problem.
I took his number (ha-ha) and said that I would verify this with Windows, as I know some-one there. He did not appear deterred at all, and kept bleating on.  When I could get a word in, I told him to tell his employers that I am not stupid enough to let them infiltrate our computer and requested that they remove our details from their database - and - that I will be reporting them!

The number is 01635 41704. I'm sure that it doesn't exist. I get so cross with them, as they never give up and we hear and read of people who keep being scammed and robbed by them..
