4/1 Friday 5.30 a.m. Moneyrow Green, Holyport. The owner heard the alarm go off and went to investigate. Thieves had cut through two bolts in an attempt to break in, but the alarm sounded and they made off immediately. This is our message. If you want to reduce your chances of being burgled, substantially – get an alarm. There is a proviso – you must set it. Thieves break a window, or attempt to break in, to see if the alarm is set. If it is, they always leave immediately, if it is not set – well........The most common reason I hear for alarms not being set, is – pets (thieves know this and look for evidence of a pet dog or cat, in the garden, or a cat / dog flap in the rear door. Almost all alarms now are pet sensitive and can be zoned. There should be no excuse. If you have paid good money for an alarm – please use it and really reduce your chances of being a victim of crime.

5/1 – 6/1  Saturday midnight / Sunday 8 a.m. Edinburgh Road, Furze Platt. Burglary. Property accessed via INSECURE SIDE GATE – attempt to force the ground floor sitting room window smashing the double glazed window – no entry gained and nothing stolen.
4/1 – 5/1  Friday 8.30 p.m. / Friday 6.30 p.m. Whurley Way, Furze Platt X 2. Burglary. Possible letterbox entry through a UPVC door. Laptop, debit / credit cards and cash stolen. Anne Chalmers our Crime Reduction Advisor, has produced a new door sticker which matches the – ‘we do not buy at the door sticker’, which goes on the inside of UPVC doors. It has an image of how to lock the door, to remind owners that UVPC doors must be double locked, at all times using the key. Just as wooden doors must be double locked using the key and mortise lock for the same reason. It is not sufficient, to close the door and push up the handle. Opportunist thieves have a piece of bent metal, they insert through the letterbox to pull the handle down. By using the key to double lock the door, this can never happen. I will have the stickers placed in the reception areas of the police stations in the borough if you want to collect one. Burglary. Again letterbox entry – handbag, purse and contents – cards and cash, 46’’ flat screen TV and laptops X 2 stolen. Various cards have been recovered from the junction of Whurley Way and Queen’s Way.
21/12 – 5/1 Corfe Place. Gold jewellery, which had been hidden in the boot of a car stolen.
3/1 – 4/1 Thursday 7.45 p.m. / Friday 9 a.m.  Headington Road, Pinkney’s Green. The owner of a house was having some work done in their bathroom. The plumber put a shower door and panel outside – they were stolen.
5/1 Saturday. 2.27 a.m. Farm, Lee Lane, Pinkney’s Green. Thieves broke into the farm and searched everywhere. They found nothing to steal, but set off a fire extinguisher before leaving.
