I HAVE HAD THIS IN FROM A MEMBER IN ASCOT – CAN EVERYBODY BE ALERT AND WARN ELDERLY / VULNERABLE NEIGHBOURS PLEASE ???

Hi Jeff,

I am just on the way out to work, but I wanted to let you know that a flyer has arrived this morning from a door to door gold jewellery buyer from Portsmouth.

He / she, wants to buy gold or any old stuff.

I guess that they have leafleted the entire street in Sunningdale – and perhaps elsewhere.

Best regards
Helen.

Please do not answer the door and then show someone you have never met before, any gold jewellery you may have in the house.  The price will probably be less than you would accept and he will leave – no deal being done.  BUT – he leaves, knowing what you have inside your house – particularly if you have let him / her in !  You will have shown it to him / her !!!

SECONDLY – we have had an ATM / Cash Machine tampered with in Ascot.  A skimming device was placed on an ATM during the evening and left on overnight.  It was removed, before people started work in the morning.  If they are using it in Ascot overnight, they may be using it in Maidenhead during the day.  If you use a cash till, please give it the once over, before putting your card in the slot.  Make sure the slot is not attached with Velcro !!!

If it is, do not insert your card, simply walk away without drawing attention to it and phone the police on 999 !

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:

RE MY RANT ABOUT HOUSE NAMES / NUMBERS

Hi Jeff,

After my wooden house sign had been stolen for the second time, I printed out the name of my house in letters the size I needed and used them as a template, and cut them out of high visibility reflective material (such as used for car number plates).

This is stuck on to the fence at the roadside and show up extremely well at night in car lights. An example of the tape that can be used is at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HI-VIZ-INTENSITY-GRADE-WHITE-REFLECTIVE

EMAILS FROM FRIENDS, JUST CONTAINING AN ATTACHMENT.

I have had several emails in this morning as well as a visit from one of my volunteers today, to say that they had received an email from a friend, which merely contained an attachment.

My volunteer emailed her friend who confirmed it was a scam email and confirmed she should not open the attachment.

We seem to have been flooded by these and as Malcolm, who emailed me today with one of these explains – you cannot trust an email from anyone you know anymore.  Jenny thought her friends was suspicious, because it had a lovely full name signature at the end, which made her immediately suspicious.
