Crime:
12 July 2013 From the Borough: Dear Royal Borough Resident, Your Money, Your Say - is a new way for residents to have a real say about how the council spends their money. It is an online, interactive discussion that allows you to rate spending ideas, leave your comments and put forward suggestions of your own. This new online conversation is an opportunity to influence the council's day to day spending and make sure it focuses on what you feel is most important. Join in the online conversation with the council at http://PB2.rbwm.gov.uk to rate spending, make suggestions, ask questions and make comments. Cllr. David Burbage, council leader, said: "Our annual resident survey has shown us the services that local people would most like to see improved. Since there is no 'spare cash' around we need to be clear where the money we do have is spent on bringing about improvements our residents want." This new online conversation means we can have a direct dialogue with residents and get valuable information about how we can better shape services to meet their needs." The council is asking for your ideas and suggestions about:
Wednesday 21st August 2013 10 a.m. / 4 p.m. – The Ascot projects Retirement Fair at the Grandstand, Ascot Racecourse – Admission Free This event has grown and grown over recent years until under the auspices of Cllr David Hilton from Ascot, it is a huge event, which draws people from all over this area. It is aimed at anyone over 50 and there will be information and stands from a huge range of people that offer advice and services, for the over 50s. I have attached David’s flier and for those of you that don’t know what I look like – that’s me in the bright blue !! I have mentioned in recent messages re suspicious incidents – if in doubt, phone the PEC on 101. Several of you have emailed to say – what is the PEC ? It is the ‘Police Enquiry Centre’ – the call centre that deals with all calls to us on the 101 number – I have attached a handout which explains it fully. I am grateful to those members, because it acts as a reminder, that as we sign up more and more new people to the messaging service, I need to continue the ongoing training and links to all our partner organisations that are of use to you within your Neighbourhood / Community. Not all of you have been signed up for years - the ‘old guard’ - who know all this. When I took over in 2001 we had 750 people on the database. We now have 12,500, with more people signing up and joining every day. For our newer members - over the years, we have dealt with all sorts of information training, as you will be someone, others ask for help - you are and will be, a point of contact for your friends, work colleagues and relatives. You are a direct link to us – the police. Over the years, we have dealt with and produced handouts for every possible topic that may be useful to you - from doorstep selling – where we work closely with Greg Nelson and his Trading Standards Team, to youth issues - The YOT – the Youth offending Team, CCTV - Darren Firth and his team at the RBWM CCTV office, ASB and the teams here within the police and over at the Borough, Drugs and Alcohol abuse – via T2 and the DAAT – the Drugs and Alcohol Action Team – who often offer drugs advice training courses, at several levels, access to all our Councillors both District, Town and Parish and of course your RBWM Community Wardens and the Senior Warden Andy Aldridge. As you know I often attach Crime Prevention Advice Handouts produced by ‘Mrs. Chalmers’ who is strategically responsible for this area. These are produced often as a result of a question from you, or a current problem. She is – as we speak – producing a handout re the thefts of spare wheels. It will be available shortly. If you have a question / concern or just need advice, just let me know. As a result of the emails I have received in the last few days, I have attached once again the NHW Handout about the PEC – When and How to Contact the Police. I usually attach whatever I feel is useful to something within the message. Please save them to your hard drive so that you can refer to them if needed. Can I also thank you. So many of you email me with helpful advice for others and alert me to the calls both on the phone and at the door that you receive. I can then alert all sorts of teams and partners, not only here, but across the entire Thames Valley. Nottingham Knockers for example along with anyone suspicious that calls at your door, are tracked by a Force ‘F.I.B.’ department – the Force Intelligence Bureau – based at Police HQ. They monitor all calls received by the PEC – from the entire Thames Valley, relating to suspicious callers at the door in order to match up patterns and people. They could be here today, Milton Keynes tomorrow. We can only monitor them with your help – so when I say please phone in any suspicious incidents – we mean it. It is the only way those teams can gather the intelligence they need. Insp. Stuart Bosley Head of CID arranges additional patrols in areas currently being targeted for crime, at the times those offences have happened. He needs your calls to direct his resources – otherwise they are just ‘patrolling / driving around’.
Your
calls, direct them.
Your
calls, make you safer.
