Crime: 5 August 2013

BIKES............As you may know, we are having loads of bikes stolen.  Some from bike racks in town centres, where they can be chosen by make, model and value, but mostly from shed and garage breaks – sometimes 3 at a time.  Looking at the crime reports, often the owner has no idea of the make, model, but may have a rough idea of the main colour.  Rarely, the text of any writing on the bike.  Frame number – Ha !  One last week, was a report of 3 bikes stolen and the owner had no details of the bikes whatsoever – they didn’t even know the colours !

SO !  I have attached a Bike Passport form.  It contains all the details we will require, if you ever report yours stolen.  Please take a few minutes to complete it and keep it somewhere safe.  You could always email the list to yourself, so that you have it forever, anywhere in the world.

ALSO RE- BIKES – we have dozens and dozens, in the back yard, none of which have been reported as stolen, or missing.  These range from small children’s bikes to valuable racing bikes ????

NEXT.  We had a good call from someone to say that some kids had accessed a remote school site and were acting suspiciously.  A car was dispatched, the kids located and a PND issued for cannabis use.  In Cookham Dean, which has recently been targeted, we are now getting really useful calls about suspicious cars driving around in the early hours.  The same car has now come up several times and we are investigating.  You may only see the car once !  It is the second call that is significant !!!  The old JIGSAW principal – you don’t actually know what it is you have seen.  It is only when the whole picture is put together, it makes sense.

MOBILE PHONE THEFT:
4/8  Sunday 10.15 a.m.  CarBoot, Ascot High Street x 2.  1.  Someone managing a stall put their mobile phone on the top of their handbag behind the table.  A couple came up and each started asking questions about prices to distract her.  The man put is jacket over her bag and phone.  When he picked it back up – the phone – A black Apple Iphone 5 - went with it !  They are described as:

  1.  Female, white, short and chubby, Romanian accent, light brown hair, wearing a blue top and red floaty skirt.
  2. Male, tanned, 5’7’’, medium build, dark hair, Romanian accent, wearing a white top and blue jeans.
Iphones and other valuable Smartphones are easily identifiable from a distance if left visible.  This is the same as leaving it on a coffee table in a coffee shop.
WE MUST ALL TAKE ‘REASONABLE PRECAUTIONS’ TO PROTECT OUR POSSESSIONS.
2  Black Iphone 4 stolen from someone’s rear pocket, while walking around the car boot sale.

This is similar to the coffee table scam in Windsor.  If you have a Smartphone – particularly a flashy Iphone – keep it hidden.  Try not to use it walking along the road in full sight of potential thieves.

We did have a pickpocket operating in the Town centre on Saturday.  One person had their wallet and mobile stolen while wandering around at 7 p.m.  Another man was approached and jostled by a man and 2 women at 3 p.m..  His Apple Iphone 5 was stolen.

I will only say one thing – ‘TRACKERS’.  THESE ARE PRELOADED ON ALL APPLE PRODUCTS – ‘Find My Phone’.  For all other Smartphones you have to download an App from your App store – where they are all rated for effectiveness and ease of use.  These phones are very valuable – over £500 each.  We do not look after them because they come free with a contract.  If you lose yours or have it stolen, the contract continues – so you will have to buy a new phone !  Familiarise yourself with Tracker / GPS Apps and if you have an Apple product, make sure you know how to turn it on if your phone goes missing.  You will be amazed at the accuracy.  Turn it on and do a normal day and then look at where you have been !  My son used his when we went skiing in December.  The GPS showed every turn we took on the pistes.  It, measured the distances travelled, as well as the heights and our speed !!  It is a brilliant piece of kit.

NO CRIME TO REPORT.

This has come in from the Community Safety Officer in Surrey for us to circulate:
This scam has been circulated by a colleague of mine in the North of the county.
If you have NHW members with houses on the market, it’s worth considering and bringing to the attention of the selling agents.
A Russian male poses as a potential buyer of high value properties.  He is taken to the properties to be shown round.  During the viewing, he talks on the phone a lot and at some time, is left on his own long enough, to be able to search and remove items such as a Rolex watches from the bedrooms
The male has been driving a Range Rover but the plates are cloned.
He is described as:
'White, approximately 5’ 5’’, bald/balding, stocky build with a Russian accent
Please feel free to further circulate the information
