WHAT A BRILLIANT BEGINNING TO THE WEEK !

NO BURGLARY DWELLINGS IN THE LAST 48 HOURS.

As a result of the item I included re updates to Traffic Legislation and increased points and fines for some offences, I have received loads of emails, asking where you can find out about the changes.  I have therefore made contact with my colleagues in Roads Policing and asked that very question.  They are looking into it for me and as soon as I have a reply – will let you know.

NEXT – AGAIN FROM TOM !
iPhones !  You must have been living on another planet if you are not aware that new iPhones have just been released.  The expensive gold and silver versions (Iphone 5s) and slightly cheaper, brightly coloured versions (iPhone 5c) are immediately identifiable from a distance – due to their colour.  These all went out of stock half way through the release date, a couple of weeks ago.  The gold ones are still on a very long waiting list.  These will be the phones to have – and – be seen with.  This of course will make them a target for thieves who could probably charge a premium for them.  So – If you have one, please be discrete if you are out and about in a public place, do not place it on a coffee table or walk along the road texting where it could be snatched out of your hand.  If they are being delivered, the packaging shape will also be distinctive !

THE CHINESE SCAM LETTER:

Dozens of you are reporting receiving these at the moment.  Some have stamps on – 60 p !  You will know if you receive one, the top line on the right had side above their address is in Chinese characters.  If you get one – BIN IT.  If anyone else you know gets one tell them TO BIN IT.  The worry is, they are willing to pay to post these out by the thousands.  That can only mean one thing, the return on their investment is worth it !  People are actually falling for it.  We must spread the word as far and wide as we can while they are targeting this area again.

FINALLY – SCAMS GENERALLY:
PCSO Les Bradfield, who covers Datchet, Horton & Wraysbury, has been to see me.  One of his flock, had a word with him.  A neighbour had employed some men who called at their door, to do some garden work.  A week later, they called at her door, offering to do some tree work and tidy her garden for £140.  She said no firmly and they responded, by offering to do it for £120.  Again she said no and the man started to walk away.  As he did so, he looked at her car on the driveway and turned, asking her if she wanted to sell it.  She again said NO and he eventually, wandered off !  Later that afternoon, another man called and also asked if the car was for sale.  Again she said no, but she does feel a little unsettled about the car.  I have recommended that she parks the car sideways across her drive and uses something to block it in, to make it much more difficult to haul easily onto the back of a flatbed.
This is a direct consequence, of anyone employing people who call at the door.  You may well be able to cope with them, but you will be putting your more vulnerable neighbours, at risk !!!
There is another side to this.
At the rear of the police station is a large vacant office building, with considerable grounds.  Flatbeds have been going in there and dumping considerable amounts of garden waste.  This is what happens if you employ these people.  The waste is not disposed of responsibly, but just dumped anywhere – beside roads and people’s private land, you name it.  I did publicise the law relating to disposal of waste a week or so ago.  The responsibility is upon you, to make sure, the person removing any waste from your property is licensed.  If they do remove garden waste from your property and dump it somewhere and there is anything in the waste to identify you or your property – it could just be an envelope, they picked up with leaves and branches – you will be liable to prosecution and a hefty fine !!!!

MEMBERS’ COMMENTS:
Hi Jeff,

I came across this clever security/locator that could be a very effective way to track lost items.

It is small enough to secrete in the tube of a bike, the seat in a car or anywhere !

It's coming soon.
Kind regards
Philip

I like it !  It is so simple.

Another satisfied customer – it was PCSO Liz Davidson – again but your PCSOs will do the same !!

Jeff,
Just to let you know, in response to my request, PCSO Liz Davidson visited us on Sunday, advised us on marking equipment in our garage and lent us the markers for the day.  This helped us appreciate that, as well as making stolen equipment less saleable, possession of such marked items is evidence that can lead to conviction of the thieves.
