Crime: 22 January 2014

We sign up on average, 100 new members every month to the Alert system.  Sometimes, I presume everyone out there has been receiving the Alerts for years and I can deal in shorthand, with repetitive crime issues, such as burglaries and car crime, in an attempt, not to teach you to suck eggs, time and time again, with the ‘lock your doors and windows' message.  If I do not provide enough information – just let me know.  The full message is even more important for our newer members, who have not heard all the relevant advice before.  I have had some feedback from new members that they are not fully aware of burglary MOs and why I say, you must hide valuable items:

where it will take a thief more than 5 minutes to find.

I have attached 2 documents – a NHW Burglary Handout – a simple to read outline and – a really good leaflet produced by N. Yorkshire Police – SECURING YOUR HOME.  You may not want to print it out, as it is 62 pages, but it is broken down into really useful sections.  Save this somewhere on your hardrive.  It is really well produced.  You can actually download an interactive version from iTunes, which contains video clips of officers explaining the various issues !

The copy I have attached is also available from this link:

They also have a an easy guide to removing the virus which locks your computer, with a front screen which appears to come from the police, saying that the computer has been used to download inappropriate material.  This is not from the police, but a scam.
