Crime: 30 April 2014

Today is the first day of the new internal Police computer systems – they have now gone live.  It has taken me some time to get used to how it works, teaching an old dog new computer systems, is not easy !!  Here goes !

We have had the first re-occurrence of the old Courier Fraud in nearly a year – not to be confused with the Courier Scam !  Fortunately we have had no Courier scams for at least 2 weeks !
29/4  5 p.m.  Stirling Close.  The owner received a mobile phone by courier.  It was addressed to them by name.  Shortly after, they received a phone call, purporting to be from the delivery company, to say that it had been delivered to the wrong address in error.  They would send someone to collect it, very shortly.  .  This is an old scam and it had happened to the owner before, so he immediately phoned the police.  Police were dispatched to sit and wait for the offender to arrive No-one came at that time.  Later the courier arrived.  The aggrieved asked him to come in, while he found the phone.  He immediately phoned the police and tried to detain the man, but he broke away and made off.  The police arrived and carried out an area search, but no-one was found.  It appears the old Delivery scam has once again reappeared.  If this happens to you and a delivery of a mobile phone is made to your home and you know, you did not order it, report it to us asap – you will receive the second call to say it has been delivered in error.  If you do get this call – say you have handed it into the local police station and it can be collected from there !  Well done that aggrieved !

29/4  Tuesday 3 p.m. / 3.30 p.m.  Station Hill, Cookham. A very strange case !  The aggrieved – an elderly man,  was standing at a bus stop.  A white van pulled up with three occupants.  They said his stepson had asked them to do some work and he would pay them £500’.  The aggrieved was taken to the nearest building society, where he withdrew and handed over £500 !  the aggrieved has since found out, the story was fictitious.
