CHARITY COLLECTORS:

Hi Jeff,

Very interesting piece about the VSO collectors.

They also came down Dale Lodge Road in Sunningdale village, and I think some of my neighbours entertained them.

They had what appeared to be ID and VSO purple jackets, but I said I'd prefer to donate online and pointed out our neighbourhood watch sticker saying we don't do any dealings at the door. I did also call 101 and reported it, even though I felt guilty doing so, just as one of your comments says, because I know VSO is an excellent organisation. I was just surprised they would collect money this way, and am very conscious that elderly people like my Mum can get conned very easily. I also e-mailed the VSO website to ask if these were genuine callers, but have not had a reply.

Caroline

Thanks Caroline.  This is how anyone calling at the door – ‘cold callers’ should be dealt with.  Courteously, but firmly.  If you wish to donate, then please make your won arrangements.  YOU MUST NOT GIVE PERSONAL OR BANK DETAILS TO ANYONE, LET ALONE, SOMEONE WHO COLD CALLS AT YOUR FRONT DOOR.
