MORE ON BOGUS BUILDERS

Hi Jeff,

Could you send out a warning message for me please ?

In Maidenhead, we have had 3 incidents were elderly residents have been approached by men asking for money.

Two happened in Cookham Rise.

In one case, an elderly resident was approached in the street.  A man just came up to him and asked for £200.  He said it was for work carried out in his garden. The resident told him that he doesn’t owe him anything and the man eventually gave up and walked away.

In the second, An unknown man went to the front door of an elderly lady resident, asking for £40, for work that is to be carried out on her windows.  He said it was a government initiative and it had to be done.  She let him in and she gave him the £40. The male then left her house.  He did not call at any other houses.

The third case is the most worrying.  It happened in Edinburgh Road, Pinkneys Green – see below.

Can you remind everyone to use their door chains whenever they answer the door to anyone, they are not expecting.  Also to take a good look at the person so that they can give a good description if necessary, any car etc.

If anyone does get an incident like these can they please call the police straight away.  If they are called in quickly enough, we can carry out an area search to locate the person and have a word with them.

Kind regards

Steph
