NO BURGLARIES TO REPORT IN THE LAST 24 HOURS

FIRST – DETAILS OF A MOBILE PHONE FRAUD / MULTIPLE IDENTITY THEFT – IN ASCOT.  WE HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE RECENTLY IN RBWM – PLEASE BE AWARE.  THE AGGRIEVED IN THIS CASE, TOOK MATTERS INTO HIS OWN HANDS, BY OPENLY PHOTOGRAPHING AND TAPING, THE CONVERSATION WITH THE OFFENDER.  OUR RECOMMENDATION WOULD ALWAYS BE    DO NOT, PUT YOURSELF AT RISK – PHONE US IMMEDIATELY ON THE 101 PHONE NUMBER, IF AN UN-ORDERED PARCEL – PARTICULARLY A MOBILE PHONE - IS DELIVERED TO YOUR ADDRESS – PARTICULARLY, IF IT HAS YOUR NAME ON IT !!!:

ASCOT & SOUTH ASCOT:
28/8  Thursday 6.20 p.m.  Dorian Drive.  Telephone scam – IDENTITY FRAUD.  The owner of a house, received a delivery of a mobile phone, a gold iPhone 5s – which he had not ordered.

Shortly after, he received a telephone call from someone (number withheld) with an African accent, who apologised, but said he was from the delivery company and that the phone, had been delivered in error.  He would shortly return to collect it.  He asked it it could be left outside, for the driver to collect, without bothering the owner further.

The owner explained – If, someone turned up with the correct and appropriate paperwork, he would hand it over personally.  Later that day, a man turned up – no uniform, but smartly dressed and asked for the phone.  The owner, asked to see the paperwork.  What he was shown, was a clearly forged delivery sheet.

He then took a photo of the man and recorded the conversation, on his phone !!!

The man immediately left ,in a white Toyota.  The owner took down the index number and immediately called the police.  The police took the index and did a PNC check (Police National Computer) to establish the details, of the registered keeper - who lived in Streatham.

The officer that attended originally to take the owner’s statement, then went with Met Pol Officers, to that address to interview and possibly arrest the offender.

The couple that lived there, did not match the photo of the offender and knew nothing about the man nor his car.  They were really concerned that the Electoral Roll and their address, had been used in a Fraud.

The photo and details of this crime remain upon the books, until the man is correctly identified.

This shows the depth of preparation and care, taken by fraudsters when carrying out these frauds.  Not only had this man copied the identity of the owner - creating a fraudulent account in their name and address, with the phone supplier, but also - registered his car to a false name, entered that false name on the Electoral Roll, along with a false address, car insurance and driving licence.  It is staggering !

We have to remember, they consider this to be their job.  They set up several fake identities and by doing this thoroughly, they can be sure they will escape arrest and identification.  That is why we must all make sure, any paperwork that can identify us, is properly destroyed and not just put into bins.  The least you must do, is tear any paperwork you dispose of into small pieces, so that it cannot be presented to banks / shops, as evidence as homeownership, to create accounts.  The gold iPhone 5s, is probably worth well in excess of £500 – nice work if you can get it !
