Crime: 27 November 2014

A GOOD END TO THE WEEK !

NO BURGLARIES IN THE LAST 72 HOURS !

This is my last message before going on Annual Leave – Not volcanoes, but Angkor Watt and then up the Mekong in the footsteps of Sue Perkins in a san pan !!!.  Unfortunately, that means very little will be coming out, until I get back in January.

Arrangements have been made, for urgent messages to go out, while I am away.

NEXT:

I gave out the wrong venue for RBWM Community Warden Lorraine Rellis’ World War 1 Tea Party on the 19th December between 3 p.m. / 5 p.m..  It is not at All Saints in Dedworth, as I reported, but the Baptist Church in Victoria Street, in the Town Centre where it joins William Street

I had a phone call about the Alms Houses in Old Windsor.  One of the residents was driving home, when a white van pulled up alongside and talked through the window.  The said that they knew she lived in one of the houses there – which was correct.  They went on to say that a couple of the roof tiles had slipped and they could come and fix it.  She refused to say anything and very correctly drove onto a public place, outside the post office – rather than driving home.  The van followed her.  They again spoke through the window and asked if they couldn’t fix the roof, who would be doing the work.  She explained the property was rented and a management company, dealt with all repairs.  The van then drove off.  This is very worrying, because he must have been to the Alms Houses and made a note of who lived where and what cars they drove – an enormous amount of detail.

Can everyone be on their guard and report anyone hanging around / anything suspicious to the police on the 101 number.

SCAM WARNINGS:

AGE OLD SCAM JUST ACROSS THE BORDER IN SURREY, IT MIGHT COME BACK HERE:

Surrey Police are warning motorists to remain vigilant, following a recent spate of people being conned into giving money for petrol.  The suspects pretend to be drivers in need.

The first incident was reported to Surrey Police on Thursday, 6 November.  The victim, a 64-year-old man from Walton-on-Thames, had been driving in Esher, when he was flagged down by the suspects, stating they needed cash for fuel.  He gave them £20 cash, in exchange for three gold rings.  The suspects promised to repay the money and gave the victim a business card.

The rings are in fact worthless and the business card a fake.

The 2 suspects are described as smartly dressed, dark skinned, possibly of Arabic origin, large build around 40 / 50 years old.  The car close by – ‘which has run out of petrol’ – is a black Mercedes saloon.

Two further incidents took place on Saturday 15th November.  One victim from Byfleet, stopped to assist the man who flagged him down.  He needed petrol to get to Glasgow and offered the rings as security.  He refused the rings, but drove with the man to a nearby petrol station and handed the man £240 for fuel !  the car was four up at that time.  He was given a business card and took the victim’s mobile number, promising to repay the money as soon as he got to Glasgow.  The description this time was a man about 40 / 45. Possibly Asian, stocky build, with a moustache and short well kept hair.  He was wearing a white shirt with a dark tie and dark trousers.  He spoke to those in the car possibly in Arabic.  The car this time was a Mitsubishi and the men inside were all smartly dressed and the same ethnicity as the fraudster.
The next case involved a 58 year old man who was flagged down by two men in Farnborough.  They said they needed money to get to Glasgow.  For the £250 that was handed over they gave him some Gold Jewellery !

If anything like this happens to you, please get the car index number, stall them and phone the police from your mobile instantly on 999.  Hopefully we will get there in time to apprehend them.

I have attached photos of the rings, so that you can recognise them !

SCAM PHONE CALLS:

From James:

Hi Jeff,

I have just received a call, from someone who called himself ‘UK Pensions’.

He sounded as though he was from the government, but of course he was not.  He had an Asian accent and tried to fish information from me.

I traced his tel no using 1471 - 02087777777 which sounds like a UK number, but when I typed it into Google, it showed this number has been used by a number of scam phone calls !

Can you let everyone know ?

Regards,

James

I certainly can !  Thanks James.
