The previous local Plan proposed only in-fill development within the existing settlement areas of the Village, and we support this policy and the protection of the Green Belt consistent with our recommendations. Maps of the Green Belt and Conservation Areas are included on line/disc.

Over the life of the Plan, and because of our ageing population locally and nationally, we believe that there will be a growing need for sheltered housing in the Village. Because of the high cost of housing key workers (for example nurses, teachers, police) cannot afford to live in Cookham. We recommend that a limited amount of housing be provided to meet this need. We have considered Poundfield and the former Gasholder site, and believe them to be suitable for both types of development.

We are full of admiration for the facilities and services provided at Elizabeth House, and support their future improvement and extension. Many elderly people wish to remain living in their own homes, and we commend Elizabeth House and its staff for encouraging and enabling them to do so.
