We recommend that improvements be made to the communication of planning applications to local people, that enforcement action should be more rigorously applied and that retrospective planning permissions should be discouraged. We also recommend improvement of the arrangements for monitoring planning activity in adjacent authorities.

We recommend the regular review of the Cookham Plan to take account of its findings, and that it is vital that they are included in the Local Development Framework. Likewise we recommend the review of emerging policies which form and support the Local Development Framework, to ensure that Cookham continues to enjoy an appropriate level of protection and that its needs are met.

Where levies are made by the Local Authority on new development, we recommend that the Parish Council should be involved in deciding how such monies are spent locally.

We believe that the local areas of Special Landscape Importance should be reviewed from time to time.

We believe that there should be better communication between the local Councils and farmers and landowners. We recommend that they should meet on an occasional basis to consider and monitor, inter alia, changes in farming practices, the Biodiversity Action Plan and conservation, the increasing use of land by equestrian enterprises and the improvement of eyesores, including poorly-managed land and unsightly and temporary fencing.
