Crime:
26 August 2011
Firstly I thought you might like
to see an email I have just received from Supt
Tim De Meyer, the Area Commander:
Jeff,
‘I have just been chatting with our
detective sergeant in charge of intelligence. He tells me that we are now
getting more and more information from our community messaging subscribers
and that the information is proving extremely useful to his team, in
building cases against thieves and drug dealers. These sightings and
descriptions of suspicious vehicles and people, are very often giving us
the bit of evidence we need to get a search warrant, or make an arrest.
Please keep up the excellent work, keep signing people up and keep the
information coming in’ !
Tim De Meyer
Many thanks,
Tim De Meyer | LPA Commander - Windsor and Maidenhead
You heard it from the top ! Your assistance is very much
appreciated. It is really helping us, to help you. If in doubt ring
! 0845 8 505 505
Next, a thank you to everyone that came along to the Retirement
Fair on Wednesday at Ascot Racecourse. All down to the excellent
work of the Ascot Project and Cllr David Hilton. Members
of the Ascot Project worked so hard all day, making sure everything ran
like clockwork. Everyone I spoke to, thought they had done a brilliant job
– the best and biggest so far ! If you have not attended one of these
events, put it in your diary as soon as it is announced next year – the
Hog Roast was fantastic ! My thanks also, to all those that came up to
chat to us, Ascot NHW, did a excellent job on the stand all day. As
always, it is a pleasure to meet what are now, old friends ! The Salsa
dancers were very good too !!! I made loads of new contacts and talked
about the proposed Community Action
Against Crime Bid, getting some really good ideas. The
Guidance and application form will be onlin e on the 31st August. I have
an initial Bid Steering Group, but if you think you can assist, just let
me know. This bid is specifically about work in and done by, the local
community to fight crime. Have a look at this link:
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/crime/partnerships/innovation-fund/
We will be competing with areas from right across the country for this
money. Let’s work hard, to come up with some excellent new initiatives
we could put into practice here that would have an effect on crime. 8,000
brains all put to good use, must come up with some brilliant suggestions,
particularly when you consider the range of talent and expertise out there
!. Please brainstorm and email any thoughts you have to the intel line. I
will place them all before the group.

Next a message from CCB re the Digital Switchover–
Hi Jeff,
‘My apologies that the website address in my message, was
inaccurate. It was not .com, but .co.uk. People should go to www.digitaluk.co.uk
’
I have just used the link and it works. If you put in your post code and
house number on the front page, it tells you exactly when your switchover
will take place and what you will have to do. I will only have to re boot
my digibox – very simple – I do it regularly anyway, as new channels
are added.
Sarah Ward goes
on to say that she has been overwhelmed by your response, offering to
attend the workshop to become volunteers in your community, to help
others. She had not expected such a huge response – she is not used
to us in the Royal Borough ! Apparently the workshop in Theale is now
already oversubscribed a matter of hours after my message !! She is trying
to arrange a second workshop in the East of the County and will let us
know new dates, if she can arrange them. Well done everyone. When she came
to me to ask if she could put out a request, I explained she would get a
response !
