Crime: 21 November 2011

A mixed bag of crime over the weekend – cars left INSECURE ! Please remember our opportunist thieves who walk along trying car door handles – if they strike lucky – you lose your property. If you have locked your car and left nothing on display – you keep it ! No car should ever be left parked on the highway or on your drive unlocked. I do hear that the unlocked, car was left protected by another car behind it. Please make it a habit, never to leave any car anywhere unlocked – even in a garage – which must also be locked !!!

CRIME:
BISHAM, COOKHAM, HURLEY, THE WALTHAMS, LITTLEWICK GREEN & KNOWL HILL:

21/11 Monday Pro Shop, Grange Lane. Attempt to force the fire door at the Pro shop. This was unsuccessful, so they threw a chair through the glass front door. They then unsuccessfully tried to force the roller shutter over the bar.. In the end they snatched the till and float.
18/11 – 19/11 Friday 5.30 p.m. / Saturday noon. Shepherd’s Close. The owner found obscene scribbling on his car using felt tip – which luckily, was easy to remove.
17/11 – 18/11 Thursday 7 p.m. / Friday 5 p.m. East Arms Place, Hurley. Attempted Burglary. The owner returned to find marks around the door which may have been an attempt to break in.
17/11 Thursday Hurley Caravan park – petrol tank containing 8 litres of fuel stolen

BOYN HILL, COX GREEN & WOODLANDS PARK:
21/11 Monday 0.10 a.m. Bath Road. Burglary. The owners awoke when the heard noises and the security lights went on. They activated the panic button and locked themselves in the bedroom – EXACTLY THE RIGHT THING TO DO ! – When they came down they found the keys and their grey Audi RS4 Quattro index V 8 JRP pulling out of the driveway. The thieves may not drive the car far, in case they go through ANPR cameras. They have probably parked it up quietly somewhere, where it won’t stand out. Do you live in a road where an expensive performance car, would blend into the others ? They will leave it there for 48 hours, to see if a tracker system has been activated. If it has, it will have been recovered. If not, they can drive it away. If it is in your road, please let us know immediately on the new PEC number 101.

Car entered by UKNOWN means – CHRISTMAS PRESENTS LOCKED IN THE BOOT STOLEN – These are the first Christmas presents to be stolen this year ! When going shopping take supermarket plastic bags with you. When buying anything in an expensive shop, put the item / branded bag, inside the supermarket bag before you leave the shop ! In the boot of your car have a large black dustbin bag. If you have to shop in relay – place any branded bags inside the black bag to make them less visible through windows. When it comes to Christmas – and this is a little early – do not display presents under a Christmas tree visible from a window. It may look lovely, but thieves will think so too. They won’t even have to unwrap them ! The name on the gift tag, will tell them if it is a boy’s or girl’s present. Everyone is buying presents at this time of year, houses will be full of tempting items for thieves – Please ensure your make sure you employ all your security in the run up to Christmas – and after Christmas – no empty boxes left outside, showing there is a new Xbox / Playstation / laptop in the house !!!

White Ribbon Day

White Ribbon Day takes place on 25 November every year across many countries.
The purpose is to raise awareness of domestic violence and to state publicly that domestic violence is not acceptable. The campaign urges people to wear a white ribbon as a pledge against violence towards women.

Domestic abuse is a crime that is often hidden, but Thames Valley Police is determined to bring it out into the open.

DCI Rebecca Mears from the Protecting Vulnerable People Investigation Unit said: “White Ribbon Day is another opportunity to raise awareness of both domestic abuse and violence towards women. Thames Valley Police fully supports this day and is committed to encouraging victims to come forward and continues working with partners in both the public and voluntary sectors in supporting this agenda.”

The role of the police in domestic abuse cases is to:
• Protect the lives of both adults and children who are at risk as a result of domestic abuse.
• Adopt a proactive approach to prevent and reduce domestic abuse.
• Effectively investigate all reports of domestic abuse.
• Facilitate effective action against offenders so that they can be held accountable through the Criminal Justice system.

Our response to domestic abuse reports:
• All domestic abuse incidents will be attended by a police officer.
• All domestic abuse incidents are graded as ‘urgent’ as a minimum. This means that police officers aim to respond within at least one hour unless circumstances require a more immediate response.
• Officers must positively intervene when called to all domestic abuse incidents. If they don't make an arrest, they must be able to justify why. This has led to a significant increase in the number of people arrested for domestic abuse-related offences. Officers are also encouraged to get as much evidence from the incident as possible.

If you are affected by or know somebody who is affected by domestic abuse please contact us via the 24-hour non-emergency number, 101 or in an emergency 999. If you do not want to speak to the police or leave your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
