DODGY BUILDERS ! - This has been sent into the Oldfield Neighbourhood Team:
Posted To: Oldfield & Bray NHPT

My name is XXXXXX
Address is XX Chauntry Rd Maidenhead

While we were out this morning, our neighbour was visited by some builders who said that we had asked them for a quote to do work on our chimney and it would be cheaper if they wanted some work done also.
He then went out himself. When he returned, the builders had put a ladder up outside his house. As soon as we returned, our neighbour came across to query what the builders had said.
We told them we had not asked them nor anyone else, for a quote.

I thought you might like to be aware of what they are doing. Our neighbours are elderly and while they have all their faculties, this sort of thing is worrying. We have lead around our windows, so we are always a bit wary of cold callers saying they are builders.

Can everyone be extremely careful with any cold callers – at the door and by phone. Our NHW motto:

WE DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR – THANK YOU !

Dodgy builders will drive around and see work being done in a road. Builders often use a display board to advertise their company at the site. The dodgy builders then call on other houses in the road, saying they work for that company – often a reputable company and have some time free while they wait for deliveries, so it would be very cheap to do any work needed, as they are they have to be on site anyway.

We in NHW elect to take care of our neighbours, to keep an eye on vulnerable neighbours – the sight of a builders van outside one of their homes should be a call to your Neighbourhood Team to pass by and make discrete enquiries. No-one need know where the call came from !!

Again - we have crimes where thieves have simply walked into houses rather than having to break in - houses / cars left INSECURE. This should not happen !

SUSPICIOUS CALLS:
We are still being inundated by the Microsoft suspicious calls:
Another phone scam: “I’m ringing about your computer, ma’am.” (filipino or similar accent). I asked for her phone number: she said 02030561758 – the number displaying was actually 02092201908, which plenty of other people have identified as a scammer on

When I had asked for the number, I asked for the name of the caller’s company. She gabbled something, so I asked her to repeat it and she hung up.

Stephanie
Just put the phone down !

I have attached another suspicious call, which seems very complicated – but once you have read it – you will never fall for it !
