Crime: 16 March 2012

A garden centre in Windsor was broken into last night and one in Ascot the night before. If you have contacts in any local nursery / garden centre, can you let them know and ensure they increase their security and are vigilant over the next week or so.

A farm was broken into in Eton Wick last night – can everyone in our rural areas be on alert:
15/3 – 16/3 Thursday 10 p.m. / Friday 4.37 a.m. Farm, Bell Lane, Eton Wick. Stable broken into – horse tack, hay, sawdust and equine items stolen. If you have contact with stables / riding schools – can you pass this on in case they are offered equipment cheaply.

15/3 Thursday 5.40 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. Southwood Gardens, Cookham. Burglary – the owner went out. When she returned she found the front door wide open. The house and the integral business next door had been searched. Bottles of cleaning solution had been taken from the kitchen and smeared everywhere, jewellery stolen.

BOYN HILL, COX GREEN & WOODLANDS PARK:
boynhillcoxgreennhpt@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk

14/3 – 15/3 Wednesday / Thursday Boyn Valley Road. Wing mirrors kicked from a car – 3 other cars similarly damaged – but not yet reported to us !!! many people don’t bother to report such things, thinking there is little we can do – what’s the point. Last year we had a number of aerials and wing mirrors damaged in Windsor. When we checked the CCTV, we tracked a group of lads – who later admitted the offences, committed whilst under the influence of alcohol. They had to pay compensation ! Unfortunately, very few residents had actually reported the damage to us so the lads got off very lightly and innocent car owners had to pay their own costs – needlessly !
16/3 Friday 2.15 a.m. Pub, Bath Road. Burglary via forced fire exit – gaming machine smashed and the cash stolen.

MEMBERS ADVICE:

I received some information today from one of our members. When I thanked her – I got this reply:

Jeff
Thanks,
I don't want to appear to be an interfering 'busy body'

For everyone out there – all 10,000 of you:
We never promote NHW as - Nosey Neighbours / Curtain Twitchers - but it is exactly what we sometimes need to be, if we are going to beat the opportunist thieves who are active in our communities.

There has been a lot of research carried out in prisons with offenders, to find out exactly why they chose / target some roads / properties over others. The main reason for not targeting a location is a NHW sign / window sticker ! – Displaying either of these, means that you are within the wider police family and for example, receive messages such as these and are therefore more aware, than average residents. They know that in NHW streets, they stand an increased chance of being seen - remembered - and most importantly - reported to the police. They have a weakness we can exploit - not wanting to be seen / noticed.

It does mean we have to be a little more forward and observant, but the rewards for our neighbours, streets and communities - being crime free - are worth it.

Everyone give themselves a pat on the back !

keep doing what you are doing - it is protecting your community !
