Comments: Dec 2006 THE pension schemes thousands of Midlands tyre workers have paid into for decades are more than £330 million in deficit, it emerged today.

Now loss-making Goodyear Dunlop has given the go-ahead for a massive cash injection of £30 million a year over the next decade in a bid to repair the funding black hole.

News of the shortfall comes after the US owned company ended the right of new recruits in June to join the more generous final salary pension schemes. New entrants to the Goodyear or Dunlop businesses in the UK can now only join an inferior scheme.

Comments: March 2005 - Grampian Country Foods has decided to close three deficit-plagued final salary pension schemes. The company rejected allegations the closure plans were motivated by the company's desire to avoid paying the Pension Protection Fund levy.

10 August 2005 TRADE UNION officials reacted furiously yesterday as it emerged 100 Grampian Foods workers in Coupar Angus are being placed under “renewed and undue pressure” to agree to new pension arrangements by the weekend.
